Stairways in San Francisco
(Français) |
|
My first exploration outside downtown guided me to a place that is really heaven on earth. A street that is not a street, but a serie of stairways, surrounded by beautiful gardens maintained by the local residents, who's houses lie on the sides of this boardwalk, which appears to be a well kept secret as much as a place accessible to any curious visitor. Signs with street names along the stairways try to convince us against common logic that the hill did not interrupt the streets continuing on the opposite hillside. Look at the photo on the intersection Filbert and Montgomery: behind me, Filbert doesn't continue (next photo), so it is really the staircase itself that is indicated as Filbert St. This mythical promenade I first made a dusk, I had to do it again by daylight to take some pictures. I could go back hundred times and still would like to scream out loud "you live in the most beautiful city in the world!" | |
