Panther : adoption rate and browser of choice for viewers of my Panther site

John Gruber used a simple idea to see how many people visiting his site had installed Panther a few days after its release. The idea is that people using Safari 1.1 have upgraded to Panther, while people running Safari 1.0 are still using Jaguar (Safari 1.1 still isn't available for Jaguar users). You can read his results on Run Panther Run

That inspired me to do the same, although my number of visitors is much more limited (especially for the first days). On november 1st, my site was listed on several Mac sites, so I had much more trafic (almost more than my connection could handle, sorry if browsing was slow at that time !) To give you an idea of what browser those visitors preferred among Safari and Internet Explorer (MSIE 5), I added a quick comparison. Note that I only computed MSIE visitors that had a Mac OS X compatible version, so the comparison with Safari users would be more accurate.

Although these few numbers doesn't show a progression as constant as the one on Run Panther Run, we can see that people adopted Panther fast. Or maybe Panther users are most inclined to read a site about Panther, who knows. It is nice to see a large proportion of people using Safari, and to have an updated version of our favorite browser ! We can only hope Apple will release it to Jaguar users soon.
